Overview

Many organisations that have made the decision to use Mifare smart cards have done so because they want to use the one card for multiple applications.  Two of the most common applications that utilise Mifare cards are door access and print/copy control.  However, organisations wanting to use Mifare cards for both have to deal with issues of enrolling a single card in two separate applications (often administered by different departments).  Furthermore, when a single card is loaded in two separate applications the ownership responsibility of those cards becomes unclear (is it the security department's responsibility, or the IT department for example).

The Print Enrolment Module solves these problems.  With the Print Enrolment Module, as a card is enrolled for security access it is automatically enrolled into the Print/Copy Control System.  This avoids the need for duplicate data entry, and ensures that once a card is enrolled in the door access control system it is also active for print/copy control purposes.

 

Functionality

The Print Enrolment Module uses COM and OLEDB connectivity to interact with the physical security management software.  It receives event notifications that a new Mifare card has been issued to a cardholder and automatically steps a user through the process of simultaneously enrolling the Mifare card into the Print/Copy Control System.  The cardholder photocopy enrolment data is supplied as a CSV file with a configurable lookup key (e.g. Domain Login or Employee ID) to facilitate loading into the Print/Copy Control System.

Different versions are available to support all Mifare Card Serial Number (CSN) formats:

• 8 character hexadecimal forward
• 8 character hexadecimal reverse
• 10 digit forward
• 10 digit reverse
