Our Smart Card Products and Solutions

RedCrater is Australasia’s expert in Smart Card products and solutions. Regardless of whether an organisation has existing card technology or not RedCrater can provide the total Smart Card solution for computer security, card management, identity, parking and public transport, ticketing or cashless payment, or specific highly secure Smart Card applications. Our products and solutions cover Contact and Contactless Smart Cards, Readers and packaged software, as well as full implementation and custom development services to meet any Smart Card needs.

Computer security

The threat to computer security is not only rapidly evolving but is commonly underestimated. Unfortunately, it is often not until after a computer or network is compromised and losses result, that the need for optimising security measures is realised. Support for Contact Smart Cards by Windows 2000 enables organisations to adopt Smart Cards to significantly improve their computer security and achieve better adherence to operating policy. RedCrater makes the adoption of Smart Cards for computer security easy by providing a range of packages and solutions to meet organisations requirements.

Smart Card Computer Login

The security of organisational data has taken on a new priority with the increasing sophistication and ease of computer and network compromise. Smart Card Computer Login provides an effective way to substantially improve computer login security by requiring true two-factor authentication through combining something you have (the Smart Card) and something that only you know (the 4 – 8 digit PIN). This provides much stronger security than other types of network logon processes that depend on traditional username and password systems and also reduces the costs to organisations of password management.

Smart Card Secure Email

RedCrater offers the Smart Card Secure Email package to provide the highest level of email security and protection. Smart Card Secure Email works by allowing encryption or signing of emails using a secure email certificate stored on a Smart Card. The encryption used with Smart Card Secure Email ensures only the intended recipient can read an email. Signing provides assurance that an email is from the correct person and that the contents (such as bank account details) have not been changed on route.

The Smart Card Secure Email package is comprised of an OMNIKEY 3021 Reader and an email certificate stored on a C200 Smart Card. Because the email certificate is stored on the Smart Card it gives you additional security as the encryption keys go with you on the card (rather than stay the computer), and this portability also allows you to use the same email certificate on all computers.

Card management solutions

Integration of Smart Cards and Physical Access Control Systems

In the first instance most organisations adopt Contactless Smart Cards to support their physical access control requirements. Through RedCrater’s unique combination of expertise in both Smart Cards and physical access control systems we assist organisations in taking the next step of using Smart Cards for additional value-added applications.

Print Enrolment Module

RedCrater’s Print Enrolment Module links with physical access control management software so that when a card is issued to a user it is also automatically loaded into the Print/Copy Control software. This avoids the need for the Smart Card to be enrolled separately in Print/Copy Control management software and means that when a card is issued to a user it is ready to be used both for access control and print management.

Identity

Smart Cards are the ideal technology for all identity card applications. Any situations where magnetic stripe, bar code or plain plastic identity or entitlement cards are used currently, then Smart Cards can be used as a more secure and user friendly alternative. Furthermore, because data can be stored on a Smart Card then additional information such as credentials, entitlements, biometric data (e.g. fingerprints) and personal information (e.g. health, training, licensing) can be stored for ready access.

Parking and public transport

Many public transport and parking technology providers support Smart Card technology. RedCrater can facilitate the creation of ‘combination card’ solutions whereby an organisation’s Smart Card can also used on either public transport or parking providers systems. This can be used to incentivise cardholders to use public transport, or give them the convenience of being able to use their ID cards at a preferred parking building.

Ticketing and cashless payment

Smart Card technology is used in many venues worldwide to improve customer experience by providing faster patron throughput both at entry gates (e.g. ski fields, concert venues) and at point of sale situations (such as cafeterias and bars). In these venues Smart Cards are used to incorporate both entitlements (tickets) and/or stored value instead of cash (e.g. for merchandise) on a single card so a customer can use the one Smart Card for all of their event purchasing needs. However, cashless payment can be adopted by any organisation currently using Smart Cards to provide them with faster payment at point of sale (such as workplace cafeterias) and to enable them to avoid the use of cash (which may be desirable particularly in environments where theft is a problem).
