Smart Card technology is used in many venues worldwide to improve customer experience by providing faster patron throughput both at entry gates (e.g. ski fields, concert venues) and at point of sale situations (such as cafeterias and bars). In these venues Smart Cards are used to incorporate both entitlements (tickets) and/or stored value instead of cash (e.g. for merchandise) on a single card so a customer can use the one Smart Card for all of their event purchasing needs. However, cashless payment can be adopted by any organisation currently using Smart Cards to provide them with faster payment at point of sale (such as workplace cafeterias) and to enable them to avoid the use of cash (which may be desirable particularly in environments where theft is a problem).
